Martha Grier, Ruth Mannschreck, and Cindy Nunnery recently attended the 70th Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting in Grapevine, TX.
Arriving Wednesday evening during the Welcome Reception hosted by EWI of Spokane, we connected with representatives from all over the country and got ready for 3 days of intense leadership training. EWI corporate also raised over $1,000 during a pop-up jewelry showcase and sale by a local vendor.
On Thursday we were first treated to an outstanding professional development presentation by Eileen McDargh on Resiliency at breakfast.
During our Awards luncheon, corporate awards were giving out. Exciting News! Our own Member Firm Wayne County Community College (WCCCD) won the 2017 Lucille Johnson Perkins Award for Outstanding Large Member Firm. CASTO (Columbus) won the 2017 Lucille Johnson Perkins Award for Outstanding Small/Medium Member Firm and Franklin University (Columbus) won 2017 Lucille Johnson Perkins Award for Outstanding Non- Profit Member Firm. But that’s not all, EWI of Columbus won a Growth Award. No more talking about where we
But that’s not all, EWI of Detroit-Windsor won an award for Outstanding Chapter Retention. No more talking, we are in action! EWI of Detroit-Windsor has made great strides over the past couple years, thanks to all our members, member firms, and supporters. We have focused our efforts on maintaining our current membership and adding representatives from our firms to grow the membership and to become a top leadership & community group.
After lunch, we had another workshop with Eileen McDargh on The Art of Balancing an Equal Life as well as other workshops to choose from on chapter operations, finance, and scholarships, depending on our needs. We ended the evening in true Texas style with a BBQ and networking dinner.
Friday found us in the EWI exclusive Academy of Leadership (AOL) training with dynamic speaker Lori Giovannoni. Lori’s training was on Finding Your Voice: An Experience in Leadership. For those who had already graduated from the Academy of Leadership, an alumni session was arranged with a tour of Grapevine followed by a wine tasting.
During our lunchtime session on Friday, we got to meet the corporate ASIST Scholarship winner, Karen Hoffman, who spoke on the challenges of her life and the impact EWI will make in her education. Everyone was so excited about her future and glad EWI chose her as a corporate scholarship winner.
Saturday, we attended the annual meeting. Represented by Cindy Nunnery as Delegate, and with support from attending members Ruth Mannschreck and Martha Grier (who served as an official timekeeper), the delegates passed:
- The 2017-2018 Operating and B/C/DP Budgets
- EWI Corporate Bylaw Proposed Amendment: Under Article III, Membership, Section 1. Qualification of Chapter:
The previous Bylaw required 25-member firms and individual members to charter. Satellite Chapters can now apply for a charter when they have a minimum of 15 Members, Firms, and Individual Members. Once they are chartered, they will have full voting rights. The Corporate Board feels that lowering the minimum number of member firms per chapter will encourage new chapters across the United States and Canada for future growth and expansion of our organization.
After the official voting was completed, the new Corporate Board was also installed, and our new Corporate President is Cheryl Hawkins, representing American Clinical Laboratory, EWI of Washington DC took the helm. 25 years earlier, when she was first joining EWI, her chapter President at the time was installed as the Corporate Board president, what a coincidence.
