Brenda Barbarich, President of EWI of Detroit-Windsor said, “The majority of applications we receive are from economically disadvantaged adults, displaced homemakers, and heads of household with small children. Caring for family and struggling to stay in school is a difficult balance. Our scholarships help ease the financial burden.”
Internationally, EWI grants more than $500,000 annually through the EWI Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation. Locally, EWI of Detroit-Windsor has awarded approximately $45,000 over the past seven years. “These grants have a positive impact on our communities,” Barbarich said. “When a parent graduates with a degree, it improves the family’s quality of life and increases the likelihood that the children will be inspired to attain a higher education.”
